The face may be one of the first areas to show the body's real age. The body loses natural collagen and elastin gradually over time, which may result in loss of facial volume and even deep facial folds. Our experienced providers at Women’s Health Group in Chicago, Illinois, offers dermal filler treatments that can return the lost volume, erase deep wrinkles and folds, and even plump up lips if desired.
Fillers Q & A
What are fillers?
Dermal fillers are gel based products that Dr. Awad injects into the face for reasons like wrinkle elimination, lip enhancement, and facial contouring. There are several different dermal fillers available today, with some of the most common being Juvederm®, and Restylane®.
Most dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid. Your body makes hyaluronic acid naturally, but levels decrease over time. Dermal fillers can restore youthful volume and can be used to add volume in areas where you need it.
What are the best areas for dermal fillers?
Dr. Awad uses dermal fillers in areas including:
- The nasolabial folds: the folds that frame the nose and mouth
- The cheeks: dermal fillers can restore volume in sunken cheeks and can create more contoured cheekbones
- The lips: fillers can eliminate lines in and around the lips, and can also be used for overall lip plumping
How long do fillers last?
Dermal fillers usually last for around six months at a minimum, although it varies by individual. Some newer dermal fillers such as Juvederm Voluma® can last for as much as two years when injected in the cheek area.
What type of recovery time is needed after filler injection?
One of the significant advantages of dermal filler treatment is that it requires no downtime. In fact, some Reflections Med Spa patients schedule their filler treatment during a lunch hour and then return to work right away.
How long does it take to notice a change?
With dermal fillers, change is immediate. You'll see the improvement before you even leave our Spa!
Keep in mind that a small amount of swelling is entirely normal after dermal filler treatment. However, your real results can be seen within a few days, once the swelling abates.
Can you have fillers and Botox® at the same time?
Yes, you can -- and in fact, dermal fillers and Botox are a great pairing for many patients who want facial improvements without surgery. Dermal fillers add the volume that you need while Botox eliminates wrinkles and prevents new ones from forming.
